(KNSI) – A free dental care event is coming to St. Cloud next month. The goal is to have up to 2,000 people get a range of services. Cleanings, extractions, filling cavities, and other dental care will all be offered.
Minnesota Mission of Mercy Chair Dr. Alejandro Aguirre says his group will be at the River’s Edge Convention Center on July 29th and 30th. In total, over 1,000 volunteers are needed to make the event go smoothly. Most of those will not be trained experts. There are several roles to be filled by everyday people looking to help.
“We should have about a thousand volunteers per day. Professional volunteers like dentists, P.L.C. (pediatric dentistry), dental hygienists, [and] dental therapists, probably between 300 to 400. The rest of them are lay volunteers, people who are not dental trained.”
Doors will open at 5:30 a.m. each day. Aguirre expects to still be seeing patients, who will most likely come from even outside the state for care until roughly 5:00 p.m. Chair Dr. Alejandro Aguirre says Mission of Mercy is actively seeking assistance.
“We are of course a call for action for everyone that would like to volunteer at the event. We do need the volunteers, always need volunteers. And mndental.org, the Minnesota Dental Association website, you can register as a volunteer.”
