While this diet can help provide the body with plant-based protein and healthy fats, people who follow this diet may often experience a deficiency of vitamin B12 and Omega 3 fatty acids.
Paleo diet: This diet is advantageous for people who love eating meat. Consumption of lean meats, plants with a low glycemic index, and healthy fats is allowed. This diet, however, restricts the consumption of legumes, refined or whole grains, dairy, and certain fruits and vegetables. While this diet can help fulfil the daily protein needs and benefit diabetics and people working on weight management, the lack of vitamin D, calcium, dietary fibre, and vitamin B can affect the nutrition intake adversely.

Harvard suggested these principles of eating to maximize the health benefits of your diet:
- Include plants: Make sure that your fruits and vegetables and other healthy plant-based products get your daily dose of plant nutrients.
- Minimize processed food intake: Processed food is a source of unhealthy fats and must be avoided as it can lead to weight problems and cholesterol issues in the body.
- Eat protein: Protein is essential for the growth and development of the body and the brain. Make sure that you get your daily intake of protein through your diet.
- Moderate your saturated fat, sugar, and sodium intake: Consumption of an unhealthy amount of sugar, sodium, and saturated fats can lead to health issues such as weight gain, blood pressure issues, and heart problems and therefore must be avoided.
- Maintain balance: Instead of focusing on the quantity, focus on the quality. Include a balanced diet in your lifestyle to enable holistic health and provide your body with a variety of essential nutrients.
